OWOT Today

Updated OWOT Today logo by AndreiXYZ on June 4th, 2024. Text created using Nomar's hexagonal SLC font.

OWOT Today was an OWOT-themed newspaper that broadcasted to the OWOT Discord on a semi-daily basis. AndreiXYZ, the project's creator, also ran a separate Discord server where users could submit news to be featured on OWOT Today.

The account for OWOT Today was created on February 26th, 2023. Its regular content ran from August 2023 to January 2024, and was released on an inconsistent schedule, with news sometimes being posted months after its occurrence. The paper made a brief return as part of a gag for April Fools 2024.

After its closure, OWOT Today was succeeded by Lemuria's Our World of News: a project which would eventually draw Andrei's ire for its heavily biased content.

August 26th, 2023	FP has set a temporary rate limit on the front page at spawn.
August 27th, 2023	@FP has uploaded a preview video teasing at the ability to use CTRL+Scroll to zoom on OWOT without using your browser's zoom. Basically, you won't have to always go into the menu and use the zoom slider, and furthermore, if you have a trackpad, you can hold CTRL and slide up and down as well. Another contribution by @kkostya allows world owners to delete messages via the sender's chat ID and the message's creation timestamp (in Unix). @FP has added another option to the /block command where you can block registered users, for "completion purposes". Our condolences to all of the families of the victims that have lost their lives during this incident, and we will make sure this never happens again. October 7th, 2023	@FP has removed the trademarks for unknown reasons from the OWOT logo, name and WOTD, leaving the Square of Publicity as the only trademarked item (possible oversight) on the center console. Once again, this has wreaked havoc and incited drama, which took the lives of several victims. Our condolences to all of the families who have had their members' lives lost. This needs to stop. Make OWOT great again! ............. Today, @e_g. has broken another message count barrier, this time being a whopping 80,000. This puts him at 27.7K messages behind the collective total discussion and spam of hundreds if not thousands of people over the span of 2 years (@Gateway#8555), and is expected to surpass it by Christmas Day, December 25th.
October 8th, 2023	Our World of Text turned 6 years old today! Six years ago, @FP has released his clone of Your World of Text to the public. To celebrate its 6th anniversary, the community has come together to make and paste various OWOT logo artwork around spawn, some even protected! To add, the trademark on the center console is back after FP noticed the amount of artworks still keeping it. @> ✨ᗩＩ ⟨ 𝓐ndrei𝓧𝓨𝓩 🌌 ⟩ ◭⟁◮ has also started a nickname party, which even had FP and Mr.Guy joining the train. October 20th, 2023	The Restoration Union has discovered two extremely rare [ Server ] messages that are obscurely difficult to have them display the intended way. This message was sent through the /uptime command, but in such a way that it was sent within one second of the server's restart, causing the actual uptime count to not display at all. This message used to be sent after attempting to send link.gy/09748. This measure was used for a short time to block the link.

October 23rd, 2023	FP learns Japanese, uses his newly learned language to express his love for pizza pie. FP は日本語を学び、新しく学んだ言語を使ってピザパイへの愛を表現します。 ............. Yet again, OWOT has suffered another proxy attack. The attacker, suspected to be Profile-1195/Account/Ajjrgby by FP, has attacked the main chat using CJK spam, forcing FP to disable it for a few minutes. One user, Sabrina, reported over 109 messages per second, but FP quickly jumped in to correct her, stating that overestimation was caused by network lag, and that 109 msg/s would imply ~54 proxies being used, whilst he only captured 9 of them. Around two hours later, OWOT had undergone another proxy attack by the same person, the chat getting disabled once again.

October 26th, 2023	Since @e_g.'s world, [/saltdxmlog](https://owot.me/saltdxmlog), has been endorsing and documenting Dextromethorphan (DXM) and general drug usage and has had the lowest rating out of any other world on the poll, FP has royally removed it, including a countdown, along with 3 temporary celebration worlds on the poll, referencing Margaret Thatcher's death, /ding-dong, /the-witch, /is-dead. ............. @hijklmnop2 has created /three_3s, which is a spin-off of @theawesomepikachu20's world, /four_4s. The world aims to calculate every number using only mathematical symbols and three instances of the number 3. ............. poopman shatters the world record for chat nickname length by copping a nickname with an earth-shattering 1874 CHARACTERS For comparison, Dzeni holds the world record for chat username length, with a whopping 248 characters.

October 28th, 2023	OWOT experiences a proxy attack for the 100th fucking time. The server was attacked in retaliation for rate-limiting an individual for nuking the spawn using a script, FP believes the server went down for around 2 minutes at the most. Enormous portions of the far-east part of the main page are being engulfed by the gradient images, warranting a super-rollback once it's done. Can we fucking go ONE DAY without some motherfucker poking the servers with their nuclear bomb. ............. An anonymous user presents us with a museum of art collected around the main page's spawn, including a submission centre and a system to sort art by the month they were created in. October 30th, 2023	To celebrate Halloween , FP and poopman have collaborated to make a Halloween-themed world, full with pumpkins and ghosts following your cursor and a cemetery background! [/Halloween23](https://ourworldoftext.com/Halloween23) officially lasted 2 days, from October 30th to November 1st, so here are a few screenshots of the stuff people have drawn! In addition, poopman has made his themed cursor script [open-source](https://github.com/poopman-owot/cursor-rep/blob/main/app.js ). ............. yagton is working on adding a revolutionary module system enhancing the OWOT scripting lifestyle, where you will be able to import scripts in YOUR script straight from GitHub in just one line instead of pasting in everything from the script! ............. October 31st, 2023	@SabrinaCarpenterFan has left her computer on for about 1.5 days straight to send 2 megabytes of pure OWOT chatlogs. ............. November 5th, 2023	At 19:48 UTC, a soyjak.party raid took place in this server allowing around 20 raiders to post NSFW, extreme gore/NSFL, anti-LGBTQ, racism, unmoderated and unbanned for about 50 minutes before FP (while on his phone, not home at the time) was alerted about the ongoing raid and neutralized them, promising to delete all of the messages individually. No more than 10 minutes later, more raiders joined and continued the raid for 10 more minutes before FP came back and stopped them, issuing 12 bans, also setting an explicit image filter for non-role members. The day before, at around 9:01 PM (Oklahoma time), yagton started casually exploring a forested area after dark, hoping nothing out there could run up to him and attack him. The opening before going in the woods was by a walking trail that he's never gone on before. He has always had a passion for exploring locations that really don't need to be. Suddenly, he sees a deer casually run a good 50 meters in front of him, wondering to himself if this is a sign that he should turn back immediately. The deer started cautiously approaching him, but through a combination of shining his flashlight at it, whistling at it, and slowly backing up, yagton has successfully conveyed to the deer that he wants nothing to do with it. However, the deer was still slowly approaching, but it was obvious it was very cautious and was maintaining a distance, it was probably more scared of him than he was of it. Keep in mind that deer are generally pretty docile, unlike meese, which are attackers. Deer's main meal is grass and generally try to stay away from everything. After several minutes, the deer has satisfied its curiosity and has walked back to its mainland. Remove chat: The chat, being one of only two immediately interactable UI objects on the page, sets the tone for the site. The content of the chat inevitably seems to become an expression of the current state of owot, an observation that can have a profound effect on the enthusiasm a person develops early on. Text on the canvas could be from any time in the past, put there by anyone for any reason. This directly opposes the effects of staring at the chat; in that it forces you to reckon the type of users and ideas you can expect yourself to be immediately surrounded by when you're on the site. You can't simply scroll those users or their messages away: the chat is a constant, consistent with the people that inhabit it. Where the canvas is a symbol of creativity not limited by boundaries, so to does the chat oppose this in interactive functionality and social design. As it stands now, the front page's chat has evolved from the intended "pin board" usage where users discuss a world, into a whole platform for real time communication. I believe this is where the abuse is stemming from, and I propose that removing the chat would be a good first step to dismantle the toxic attitudes that attract troll behavior to the front page. It would be wise to test it first; there could be other ways to integrate the chat (only visible/usable by registered users, whitelist, slowmode, etc) that might have more positive effects. Redesign the SOP: This is the first monument seen by any new user who joins the front page for the first time. Very much about this experience is left vague, and almost no direction is given besides the ratings and teleportation station. Thus one ends up requiring much stronger curiosity and attention span than the average person generally exercises in order to discover the purpose of anything beyond the unprotected areas around spawn. I think that the SOP should be bigger with a few short tips so that users can glean fundamental concepts that embody the adventure of discovering the front page and expressing oneself on it, and there should most likely be a graphic content warning. Links to coordinates 50 out in any direction on the top and bottom and both sides of the SOP would give users immediate incentive to branch out. Encourage registration: Discouraging use of the site without an account will foster more users who feel like coming back and end up turning away low-effort attention seekers. This could be done by limiting features more harshly for unregistered users, including rate-limit, cell color, and ability to place links, while granting these features to any registered user. This would incentivize a more coherent community to form, and would aid in designing a more effective moderation system. FP has changed the @User role's color from gray to a light blue similar to @United Snowy Boys's, and then changed it to the default white after noticing the similarity. One year and a half after @> ✨ᗩＩ ⟨ 𝓐ndrei𝓧𝓨𝓩 🌌 ⟩ ◭⟁◮ and @realredtext recreate and reupload the yellow emotes from the emoji roster, @> ✨ᗩＩ ⟨ 𝓐ndrei𝓧𝓨𝓩 🌌 ⟩ ◭⟁◮ embarks on a mission to fix up all of the inaccuracies in the current emotes to make them 1:1 accurate to the old, low-resolution emotes from 2018, by extracting the images from their source and upscaling them 8x, fixing up incorrect colors, misplaced pixels, compression artifacts and uneven pixel resolutions. Have you heard of the name "Starianna", especially in the context of Our World of Text? If not, feel free to continue watching this video, and make sure to sit back and relax, as we take a dive beneath the waves and explore what Starianna has to behold and offer to this site. The Mysterious Story of Starianna | OWOT Deep Dive Exactly eight days before this occurrence, an anonymous user ran a counting bot in the front page's chat with the intent of clogging up the chat and just being a general spammer and nuisance. It didn't run for long, as FP came in and muted the bot within a minute. Two hours later, the bot came back and went unnoticed for a bit longer before getting muted again by FP. The bot has made numerous appearances afterwards, including a message right before the counting bot started, "Starianna". Two days later, on January 22nd, FP has made a remark on the fact that there might be somebody spamming JS links, activating the counting bot, after muting the fourth bot that day. The next day, he gave the supposed Starianna spammer the maximum mute amount, hoping they would stop. After a couple more spam-counting incidents and a couple more mutes, on January 24th, FP has stated that he will work to address this strange counting bot phenomenon, and that he has evidence to suggest these bots aren't run on the browser, and that they're from dozens of residential IPs (not proxies). On the same day, after the numerous mutes given, Starianna temporarily moved the counting bot to /name_tree, which was the WOTD at the time. On January 25th, FP attempted to contact Starianna about how he can't get rid of her, although there was no response other than more automated counting. Additionally, he has mentioned the fact that Starianna changes her IP address to a non-proxy IP that appears legitimate every time she gets muted. Several hours later, d9eoead has complained to FP about how he appears to be "chatting too fast" even though he's not spamming. FP has replied, saying that that only happens if he's actively running a chat bot somewhere, perhaps via a Glitch/repl project, which leads to him possibly tracing these counting bots to a website people here are visiting in droves, explaining the legitimacy of the IP addresses. He also mentioned later that he could use [CSP](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/CSP) to block connections to OWOT from other sites, which would help kill off spammers like Starianna. On January 28th, FP has mentioned that he has observed Starianna changing her phrases every now and then to evade any auto-muting filter. And now, it's time for perhaps the most intriguing and chaotic part yet. On the same day, at 12:09 UTC, OWOT user twinnie has stumbled upon SabrinaCarpenterFan's YouTube channel, holding an oddly familiar name... Starianna. The same spammer running the counting bot on the front page for over a week now's name, is "coincidentally" also Sabrina's channel name. With this newfound information, it was clear that Sabrina's continued presence in this Discord server would not last long at all. @lime.owot proceeds to post it on the Discord server three minutes later. At first, nobody reacted until Sabrina herself admitted to running the spam bot 45 minutes later. Immediately after this message, the ⁠trash erupted into a chaotic waterfall of messages mocking, making fun of and rightfully harassing Sabrina until FP woke up and checked Discord to review the situation. Sabrina ended up leaving the server shortly after she admitted to being the infamous Starianna, but after being preventively banned from [our server](https://discord.gg/w8fP2d9qPU), the [WOTD server](https://discord.gg/zvCBYkGfmQ) and the [Goatway Remake server](https://discord.gg/TqpH4UvWPT), she rejoined the OWOT server and threw a fit, repeatedly asking and pinging Falling1, alongside the admins which were online at the time but take no part in moderating the server, such as sammich, Mr.Guy and DayDun, although there's no reasonable explanation for how they would even help. Seeing as she still doesn't get any help, she then continues to ping every online person in the member list asking for advice. After one of the pinged members sends Sabrina a death threat, her tantrum worsens and continues to ping every single member. After some time, she starts sending homophobic and racial slurs, increasing the chances of her getting banned from the server, and then makes an alt account in an attempt to preventively evade the future ban. Nearly four hours after lime.owot exposes Sabrina, or Starianna, it finally happened. @FP has gone online. Minutes after FP has finally checked Discord, @> ✨ᗩＩ ⟨ 𝓐ndrei𝓧𝓨𝓩 🌌 ⟩ ◭⟁◮ quickly rushed to DMs with him to discuss the ongoing situation, providing proof and context necessary to warrant Sabrina's ban. After reviewing the conflict, he finally decides to speak in ⁠trash to Sabrina, expressing his disappointment. At 16:09 UTC, thanks to an immense amount of requests by the community, @FP finally bans SabrinaCarpenterFan, otherwise known as Starianna. The chat erupts once again, celebrating this deed. The OWOT Discord server is now free from Starianna. This calls for an official victory. Sabrina, however, continues to run the counting, showing no signs of stopping, and FP having limited tools to ban her completely from the site to this day. ............. On July 12th, 2024, the dormant of corpse of OWOT Today experienced a brief, murderous spasm of activity.

Two posts were released on that day featuring the words "his demise" written in Lemuria's text color. For context, earlier that year Lemuria had started his own OWOT newspaper named Our World of News, which Andrei had repeatedly criticized for effectively functioning as its author's propaganda platform.

This is not the last time that OWOT Today would be used to target Lemuria's paper.
