OWOT Discord

The OWOT Discord is Our World of Text's official Discord server for users to discuss about the site and partake in other miscellaneous topics. For the most part, members often share memes, improve the site by suggesting ideas, reporting bugs, and sharing their creations (including art, worlds and scripts). The server is also a good place to get in touch with the administrators, of which the most active are FP and Fern.

The Discord server has become a significantly less toxic environment ever since the promotion of Fern in 2024. Because of this, many users have expressed a preference for Discord over the poorly moderated chat and canvas.

On the other hand, there are groups of users(mainly anons) who despise the Discord community with a passion, arguing that it has become an authoritarian place which appeals to minors. Most critics of the Discord also harbor negative sentiments against furries and transgender users, who make up a significant percent of the server's population.

Emote Boards

In the OWOT Discord, multiple users operate boards dedicated to indexing posts that have received at least a certain amount of reactions for one emote. As of October 2025, Fern's index of boards, a pinned message in trash, includes four boards, which are: her fireboard (5+ fire reactions); Lime's catboard; the foxboard, run by Fox (who later became the host of the Echoden system); and the deerboard, run by Catha'Vi (now the host of the Weird Creature System).

The Fireboard is the oldest and longest board. It is operated by Fern, and has been running since June 2024. It arose from the creation of the fire/wastebasket system per decisions made as part of the Shitpost Working Group that Fern ran from June 12 to June 18, 2024^[1]

In June 2025, Fern stopped updating the board, as she had began work on creating a dedicated website for a fully automated fireboard, which Fern confirmed she was working on in October 2025. In the meantime, Sylveon created a thread where she took over the work of updating the fireboard. Lemuria has also been an active contributor to the unofficial board.

There also exists the trashboard, a collective term to refer to all posts that have been deleted for reaching a score of −5. In this case, the score is the number of wastebasket reactions, minus the number of fire reactions.^[1] Self-reactions do not count.

"The Catmint Curse"

The Catmint curse is a phenomenon in the OWOT Discord that results in a user's nickname being set to "catmint". Fern was the first person to bear the name. She later abandoned the name, and Akatas adopted the name. In a poll on May 22, 2025, lasting 24 hours, 10 people unanimously voted for Lemuria to inherit the catmint curse, and as a result, his nickname was changed to catmint.

The Catmint Curse was originally named such by Name who realized that aka was a prolific force in the #solve channel of the discord during the time in which she was Catmint.

Unofficial OWOT survey

The Our World of Text Unofficial Survey was a survey held by Crazy Cat Lady in December of 2024. Having been on OWOT for only one month, CCL wanted to learn more about OWOT and its community.

On December 12th, 2022, the survey was released on both the Discord and the Canvas.

The results were released seven days later, on December 19th.

The full, unsanitized list of responses was released on December 20th.
