{{Draft header}} is an informational header intended for the top of pages in the Draft: namespace. The header content varies depending on whether or not the draft corresponds to an existing article in the mainspace. Drafts with counterparts are categorized in Category:Drafts of existing articles, while those without are categorized in Category:Drafts under creation.

For drafts of existing articles, |created= can be used to indicate the point in time when the draft was created, diverging from the original article. {{subst:Draft}} can be used as shorthand to automatically populate this parameter with a timestamp and insert a comment outlining instructions for merging the draft back into the original article. For drafts without a corresponding mainspace article, {{subst:Draft}} is identical to {{Draft header}}, as the template call is substituted with {{Draft header}} once saved.

When {{Draft header}} is used outside of the Draft: namespace, it shows an error message in preview and displays nothing once saved.
