Kesherian Skies

Original "Kesherian Skies" art by Catzcute4, which depicts the atmosphere of a fictional planet named Kesheri.

how this works: each color is a function of x and y, where x and y are pixel positions, and it outputs a pair of 2 chars, each one can be space, full block, link full block, or coordlink full block. each color has an RGB vector with it, and for each pixel in the source image, the closest vector by euclidean distance is found and its corrosponding function is used to generate the next 2 characters.

"Kesherian Skies" is a series of image pastes based on a drawing by Catzcute4.

Created during The Great Color Ban of 2025/2026, they served as experiments in dithering with green and blue links to create the illusion of otherwise inaccessible colors.

Text colors were incorporated into the pastes as they were gradually re-enabled in February 2026.

how this works: each color is a function of x and y, where x and y are pixel positions, and it outputs a pair of 2 chars, each one can be space, full block, link full block, or coordlink full block. each color has an oklab color with it (representing its average color), and for each pixel in the source image, the closest vector by euclidean distance in oklab space (color differences increase "distance") is found and its corresponding function is used to generate the next 2 characters.

basically, a lot of images are sampled depending on what color is needed to try to get that color without looking too bad.
