Lemuria v. Concerned Parties, or d9 v. lemuria, the name of the private thread, was an ad hoc arbitration case between Lemuria and multiple parties opposed to him, represented by d9eoead. Fern began the arbitration at 01:43 AM UTC, on July 10, 2025, giving both parties 24 hours to write a document explaining their case. On July 17, 2025, the case ended, with Fern choosing to ban Lemuria for 75 days with a 30-day reconsideration period.

This was the first arbitration case of its kind on the site, due to the complexity of the Lemuria-OWOT conflict and the lack of clear formal administrative rulings from earlier points in the conflict.

Case

"overall structure of this thing

1. initial statement window

2. rebuttal/debate phase

3. arbitrator questioning

4. decision making

each gets its own day so this'll be a four day thing pretty much"

― fern

The initial statement window ran from July 10–12, 2025. Lemuria wrote his statement in the form of a PDF file generated with LaTeX, a document typesetting system, while d9eoead wrote his statement on an OWOT world. However, because d9eoead could not finish the document in time, at 03:44 UTC, on July 11, 2025, Fern granted both parties another 24-hour extension.

About 12 hours later, Lemuria sent his document to Fern at 16:40 UTC, while D9eoead claimed he sent his at 15:52 UTC.

Starting in the evening of July 12, 2025, Lemuria and d9eoead began debating against each other, as part of the rebuttal/debate phase. D9eoead posted his document to https://ourworldoftext.com/the_case_against_lemuria and Lemuria's PDF document is at https://lemuria.ph/static/2025-07-10-owot-arbitration-lemurias_case.pdf (mirror). The thread where the two discussed the case was initially public, but d9eoead and Fern later chose to move to a private thread.

The rebuttal/debate phase ended early, though the start of the arbitrator questioning phase was delayed by real-world events in Fern's schedule.

Final ruling

In the evening of July 17, 2025, Fern made her final ruling on the case; Lemuria was to be banned for 75 days.

Because Lemuria is in over 150+ Discord servers, Lemuria requested that this be implemented by assigning him the "verify-yourself" role. Lemuria justified this method of the ban by arguing that since he would have to leave over 50 servers to rejoin the server after the end of his ban, the ban would effectively cascade to fifty other servers, far beyond its intended scope. Fern accepted this.
