fernsy

fernsy, also known as slaskax, yagton, Chatrumor, and catmint, is an American military contractor and OWOT user. Since 15 May 2024, he has been one of the Discord server's admins. On 1 July 2024, he came out as a transgender woman.

Name

fernsy is a diminutive of Fern, his post-transition middle name and nickname. This name was chosen as a tribute to a close transfem friend whose middle name is Leaf.

An older name for him, yagton, is still in collective memory and frequently used, though not preferred. It is a blend of his former middle name Ashton and the acronym YAGNI ("you aren't gonna need it").

Other names include slaska, and slaskax (used when slaska is taken), both of which are meant to be easily typed on a QWERTY keyboard.

History

fernsy first joined OWOT in April 2018 and later the OWOT Discord server in August 2021.

Gender transition

fernsy had been aware of his transgender status since around 2018, but was not in a position to act on it, as he lived in Oklahoma - a state with several anti-LGBT laws, and his parents were unsupportive.

AndreiXYZ, a close friend of fernsy, was one of the first to know.

On 1 July 2024, he announced that he was transgender.

Chicago

fernsy moved to Chicago sometime in October 2024.

Personal life

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City; where he once lived. He had expressed a desire to move to Chicago, motivated by Oklahoma's anti-LGBT laws, which has since been acted on.
