Lemuria, also known as Nora Elise Proctor, is a user who joined in November 2023. He discovered the website through Polonez, who left spam comments on OpenStreetMap, that he then followed. His visit was brief; he did not start using the website in earnest until February 2024. That month, he started Our World of News, a now-defunct newspaper for the website that ran until February 2025.

Starting around June 2024, Lemuria began to attract controversy for his behavior on, and philosophy towards Twitch, alongside other behaviors perceived as "attention-seeking". In July 2025, Lemuria received an initial 75-day ban with a 30-day reconsideration period pursuant to the ruling of Lemuria v. Concerned Parties, which also consituted a vacation. On September 30, he was released and his 30-day reconsideration period began; at the end of the period, Fern will review Lemuria's behavior to determine if any further punishments are needed.

Etymology

His name, Lemuria, comes from Lemuria, a hypothetical continent proposed in 1864 by Philip Sclater theorized to have sunk beneath the Indian Ocean.

Nora Elise Proctor

In main chat and on discord, Lemuria has named himself "Nora Elise Proctor". Lemuria intentionally avoids any and all questions about the name changes and/or the character herself. For a brief period of time in March 2024, Lemuria frequently threatened people that "Nora Elise Proctor" would use an M4 fully automatic rifle and shoot them to death. When questioned by d9 about the purpose of the "Nora Elise Proctor" character, Lemuria says that it's due to boredom.

On June 3, 2024, Lemuria added "Gallia" to the name, becoming "Nora Gallia Elise Proctor", in reference to an American violinist, Gallia Kastner, though later removed it after continued backlash against him and his continued mentions of Kastner within the Discord.

"Lemuria er Nalaneriv humas"

On April 1, 2025, Lemuria changed his nickname to "Lemuria er Nalaneriv humas"[a], for April Fools. However, Lemuria later chose to retain the phrase as his nickname, and retire "Nora Elise Proctor', even after April Fools. The phrase means "Lemuria is a fan of Nalani Proctor" in Kenahari, one of his conlangs.

Catmint

On May 21, 2025, 10 people unanimously voted to pass down the Catmint curse to Lemuria, leading to his nickname being changed to catmint. He later added "(Lemuria)" in parentheses to the nickname. During his 75-day ban from the server, he prefixed the name with "[On Vacation]", which Fern removed for him at the end.

Projects

Lemuria has created a variety of projects for the site; two worlds, a newspaper, and fictional maps featuring extensive references to OWOT users and his other interests. His longest-running project was Our World of News, which ran from February 2024 to 2025. On the site, he created /asciinavy (a world with simple drawings of spaceships made using ASCII), and /galaxymap (a set of star names on a galaxy). The latter world was the WOTD for March 13, 2024. In November and December 2024, he created the Uvias Metro, a fictional metro system with stations named after OWOT proper nouns. In June 2025, he created the OWOT Starmap, the successor to galaxymap, entirely abandoning the OWOT world-based format for a slippy map format similar to OpenStreetMap.

Mental health

According to d9eoead, Lemuria allegedly shows several symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), as he "heavily desires attention, puts his needs above others, lacks empathy, and cannot handle criticism." In fact, he has only been diagnosed with autism and is actively seeking out mental health resources, and has done so since August 2024.

Controversy

Edit wars

An edit war started between d9eoead and Lemuria when Lemuria created an SCP parody article about Ziggy at Trash:AOP-1044 in March 2024.

Fearing a "Yellow Guy 2.0", d9eoead quicky blanked the article. Lemuria reverted this, and this looped over and over until d9eoead spammed the article with 100k bytes of Alejandro mpreg fart porn. Shortly afterwards, FP got involved, warned d9eoead and moved Lemuria's article to the Trash category. Lemuria reverted this a few times before stopping. Later, Lemuria created a copy of the article outside of the Trash category, which d9eoead soon discovered and moved back into the Trash category. Lemuria later deleted the copy article.

On September 9, 2024, Lemuria and d9eoead briefly fought an edit war over a section regarding Lemuria's behavior on Twitch. FP eventually ruled on Discord that the section could be included, while explicitly affirming Lemuria's right to report on d9eoead's controversial actions.

There is currently a third edit war between Lemuria and d9eoead between whether or not the "This section is written by an adversary of the subject" notes should be removed. d9eoead is in favor of their removal, stating that not only is he simply writing facts on the article (agreed upon by users and the mods, as well as having an extensive timeline of such on the OWOT server), he also doesn't outright hate Lemuria at all, simply saying that Lemuria's actions are immoral and thus d9eoead will go against him for such. Lemuria countered d9eoead's points, saying that he still views d9eoead as an adversary and that he believes that his biased viewpoint towards d9eoead is more than enough to make all of the verified pieces of information automatically false, which is an incredibly fallacious viewpoint. d9eoead has stated several times that he does not want an edit war and that he's open to discussing this and talking it out.

Obsessions

Lemuria has been criticized for his continued frequent mentions of indie musicians, especially women. Most of these mentions are of three people, who are Ruth Acuff, Emily Anderson, and Gallia Kastner.

“Attention Extraction”, Twitch Streamers, and Baiting

Lemuria frequently talks about “attention extraction” and often uses baiting tactics on the OWOT discord server to give him more attention. Examples include repeatedly using the number “423” in his messages, and often blabbering about the previously mentioned female indie musicians. He often talks about the twitch streamers he “extracts attention” from, and has shown a hate towards the moderators of the streams, whom he refers to as the “Cooked Fish Group”. His “attention extraction” can be seen as detrimental to his mental health, as he goes into fits of rage or sadness whenever twitch streams are postponed or interrupted, and has even wished death on the twitch moderators. He has been told multiple times to stop talking about the “Cooked Fish Group” and his “attention extraction”, but continues to do so.

Lemuria also views his desire for attention as being above other people’s lives. When the maternal grandmother of a twitch streamer he watches dies, he is only worried about how it will interfere with his “attention extraction”.

After several more confrontations, Lemuria became more distanced from OWOT, only posting cat pictures here in there. His usage on the OWOT discord server slowly rose, and so did his attention extraction, an example of which is his saying "Sodium, Lanthanum, Nickel"; which stands for “Na La Ni”, "Nalani".

When Fern gave Lemuria less and less attention, he became depressive, writing several paragraphs on his personal wiki about how it affected him. When Lemuria pasted these several paragraphs onto the OWOT server, d9eoead confronted him, asking him why he is even writing that much because Fern isn’t giving him enough attention. Lemuria went on to say that “there is no replacement for Fern”, leading many users to become worried, calling it creepy and obsessive. This is an example of how Lemuria treats attention and validation, as when people give him even a slight amount of it, he latches on and depends on it immensely.

Katherine Hessen

Katherine Hessen, a spammer troll who targeted the chat and canvas in 2024, is most likely to be Lemuria. The spam alt revolved around a fictional character; a satirized and villainized version of Kamala Harris which "killed 450,000 kids in Galsi", an allusion to the real-world conflict between Israel and Hamas.

This spam would last several months, targeting not only chat but also the canvas, destroying art. In November of 2024, PC_KOSA (a discord user) exposed Lemuria on the OWOT server as the one behind the Katherine Hessen spam. When PC_KOSA first confronted him, Lemuria reacted surprisingly angry and repeatedly told him to "fuck off" and started wastebasket reacting all of his messages.

PC_KOSA then listed incredibly deep and verifiable evidence:

  • Katherine Hessen spam happens when Lemuria is online (examples listed below, all within 2024):
    • August 15th: Katherine Hessen spam appears when Lemuria is viewing the chat
    • September 18th: Katherine Hessen spam appears after Lemuria comes into the chat
    • September 22nd: Katherine Hessen spam appears after Lemuria comes into the chat
    • October 13th: Katherine Hessen spam appears after Lemuria comes into the chat
    • October 20th: Katherine Hessen spam appears after users talk about Lemuria
    • October 26th: Katherine Hessen spam appears on the canvas (near spawn) when Lemuria is active at the spawn
    • November 18th: Katherine Hessen spam appears on the canvas (near spawn) after Lemuria writes something on the canvas (near spawn)
    • When Lemuria is online the spam is more frequent, whereas when Lemuria is offline the spam becomes more rare.
  • On May 3rd of 2024, Lemuria sent 2 messages about the word “Katherine” in the OWOT discord server.
  • When the first Katherine Hessen spam occurred (July 29th, 2024) it happened 5 days after someone mentioned the city of Hessen to Lemuria.
  • Lemuria’s and the spammer’s writing style is also very similar.
  • Lemuria was more vocal about the spam than anyone, which is strange because when other spam happened, he wasn't as vocal. This is likely him attempting to create discussion of the Katherine Hessen spam, in turn giving him attention through the alternate identity.

After this evidence was shown on the OWOT server, Lemuria began to spam cat pictures in an attempt to change the topic and push the messages away from sight. Lemuria also was very aggressive and snappy, pressuring PC_KOSA to delete the messages and that he should only discuss the spammer unless he has Lemuria’s permission. Lemuria has reacted this way sparsely towards other things, but he has never spammed pictures in response to something other than this one instance.

On June 5th of 2025, d9eoead confronted Lemuria about him being the Katherine Hessen spammer. In response to this, Lemuria became snappy, aggressive, and repeatedly tried to change the topic and push the blame away from himself. Using the evidence that PC_KOSA has given, d9eoead has contacted the moderators about Lemuria being the Katherine Hessen spammer, saying that he must be punished with a ban from the OWOT server.

Lemuria continued to officially deny authorship of Hessen, until October 4, 2025, when he issued a confession and apology in the OWOT Discord server.

Notice of Authorship Confession: I was the Katherine Hessen spammer.

I, Lemuria, officially confess to being the author of Katherine Hessen, and the responsible party behind all the instances of Katherine Hessen spam. For the uninitiated, this spam took place around June 2025. This was one of the major actions that led to Fern issuing me a 75-day ban in *Lemuria v. Concerned Parties*. This mental health break and ban has helped me see the errors of my past actions.

I have continued to develop Hessen and the universe she lives in, privately.

I decided today to correct the record and to give up the fight; since timings and evidence line up against me pretty well and have for months.

I apologize for the harm done to the canvas and to the chat by my reprehensible actions.

OWOT vacation and 75-day Discord ban

On July 10, 2025, Fern invited d9eoead to begin arbitration against Lemuria for his various actions over the past year, in OWOT's first and only ad hoc arbitration case. After seven days of deliberation, Fern issued Lemuria a 75-day ban from the server, which lasted until September 30, 2025. This was Lemuria's first period of major inactivity; though he remained sporadically active on the OWOT website and wiki during the period. He also framed the ban as a "mental health break" and "vacation", due to not having to fight endless dramas for those 75 days.

With the end of the ban, Lemuria is now in a 30-day reconsideration period; on October 30, Fern will review Lemuria's behavior during the period to determine if the ban should be removed.

Cats

Mao in 2025

Lemuria's affinity for cats, while predating OWOT, was significantly strengthened by the cat culture on OWOT, and Fern's influence. During the vacation, Lemuria met a cat at his local convenience store, who he later named Julie Mao. This name was inspired by an employee jokingly naming the cat "Julie the Second" after herself, and Lemuria later added the name "Mao" due to its phonetic similarity to "meow" and due to a TV show he watched during the vacation.

Notes

  1. The nickname originally used the word husirs, which is grammatically incorrect, as hu ("to be") uses the first conjugation. The correct suffix to indicate habitual present in the first conjugation would be -mas, whereas the second conjugation, reserved for verbs that end in consonants, would use -irs. husirs was used in an earlier version of the language, and the phrase was in Lemuria's notes regarding sample translations into the language, that had not been updated with the changing Kenahari grammar, hence the error, and subsequent change from husirs to humas.
