Naive art on spawn

Art is the opposite of spam; content intended to make OWoT more visually appealing and provide a contrast from the enormous plains of spam. It's often griefed, replaced, spammed or wiped, often by trolls and griefers.

It's less usual to see at spawn, but can be found more far away. However, there are times where art is seen at spawn, for example on January 29 2023.

Art can mainly be found on /main or other worlds.

Art archives like KKosty4ka's art archive, fp's art archive and /SpawnHistory/2023 exist.

Art is also ruined by spam scripts or overwritten by image pasters.

There are many types of text art like SLC art, ANSI art and ASCII art.

Traditional ASCII art

Art made almost entirely of standard keyboard characters, with the occasional unicode thrown in.

Traditional ASCII artists include kkb, Meimei, Rscr, Guest-1052, and the anonymous members of the Man Hating Zone.

Tutorial

Once you get the hang of it, it is possible to replicate line art using text characters.

Using colored text, it is possible to create incredibly vibrant art of all forms.

Brush scripts

Users like CCL and Poopman have developed scripts that allow users to draw pixel art using unicode.

/ms-paint is a world with a built-in script that emulates MS Paint within OWOT.

SLC art

Art created using Symbols for Legacy Computing: characters which are not supported on the vast majority of modern websites.

SLC characters are mixed with unicodes, colored text, and the ability to change cell background color to create surreal approximations of 3D objects.

SLC artists include JRT, AndreiXYZ, jan soweli Asike, place_holdrr and Polonez.

Link art

Art that uses URL and coordinate links to create green and blue text. Drawings like these are mostly obsolete in OWOT, but see some use in the monochrome Your World of Text.

Link art briefly became popular during the 2025 color ban, which temporarily disabled text colors on the front page and forced users to come up with alternative methods of rendering color. Link art was one form of this, colored emojis were the other.

Art on TextWall

Main article: TextWall

TextWall renders certain unicode/SLC symbols differently from OWOT, resulting in visible gaps between characters in ANSI/SLC art.

Art from TextWall can be ported to OWOT using OWOT-TW Conversion. But a good portion of OWOT art aren't compatible with TextWall due to the latter canvas' lack of support for customizable cell colors.
