On October 27th, 2016, OWOP was released by [[Eldit]] as a school project. It was initially located at cursors.me/pixels, but was redirected to yourworldofpixels.com on November 12th — after [[InfraRaven]] was contacted about the project — and then to ourworldofpixels.com by November 17th <ref>https://2s4.me/public/owop_screenshots/</ref>. It was also on the 17th that the site's existence was first advertised to the public.<gallery>
